London Harpists Eilidh

Eilidh was born in Inverness, and began lessons on the Clarsach at the age of seven. Five years later she was awarded a Traditional Music Scholarship to Lomond School.  At the same time she gained a place at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama as a Junior Department Student.

In June, 1999 Eilidh graduated from Trinity College of Music where she studied with Sioned Williams, Principle Harpist, BBC Symphony Orchestra.  Whilst there she performed Debussy’s “Danses Sacree et Profane”. In 2001 she completed a two-year Postgraduate Performance Course studying with Skaila Kanga at the Royal Academy of Music, supported by the Winifred Disney and Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation Awards.  In July 2000 she achieved Highly Commended in the Julia Leney Prize for Harp.

From 1993-96, Eilidh was Principal Harpist with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and between 1997-99, with the National Musicians Symphony Orchestra.  Her professional work includes performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Foundation Philharmonic Orchestra and she also worked with the Britten-Pears Orchestra and British Youth Opera.

Eilidh is fast becoming one of London's busiest Harpists and has also recorded for the band Travis, appeared on TV with Andrea Bocceli and has played with Sir Paul McCartney, Sir George Martin and Dire Straits.  Last summer she toured to Italy with a jazz funk group called “The Orchestra” and has had a solo appearance at the European Harp Symposium held in Amsterdam.

As a member of the Samsara Duo (flute and harp) she is on the “Live Music Now” Scheme which organizes concerts in the community for people who might not normally have access to live music.  The duo recently toured Yorkshire and throughout Scotland, which included a performance at Holyrood House.  They have also given concerts at The English Music Festival and The Warwickshire Music Festival.

Eilidh often performs at the Langham Hilton and the Park Lane Hilton Hotels and has recently returned from a cruise around Norway playing with her harp trio, Angelica.
